The Challenge of Winter

Here in Chicago we are blessed (?) with long, beautiful winters. (Hey, I’m trying to look on the bright side, here!) This means 4, 5, or 6 months of struggling every morning with the winter gear. First, there’s the argument over winter-appropriate clothes. Then, the argument over getting on the boots, the coat, the hat, the snowpants, and the mittens all in a timely fashion. And if you have more than one child, the problem is compounded!

If you’re anything like me, I find myself going from “Let’s focus on finishing breakfast so we can get dressed” said in a kind, encouraging voice to nagging to screaming “GET DRESSED WE NEED TO LEAVE! WE ARE GOING TO BE LATE!” in a matter of minutes. And as the winter wears on, my patience gets increasingly thin. Since I’m the highly trained parenting expert, you’d think that my mornings are all sweetness and light but I will be the first to admit that cooperation is sometimes a challenge around here, too!

I do have some tried and true tricks that work around here….what works for you?
